What personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can see or correct it.

The short version

Only what we need

We collect your name, email address and order details so we can deliver your book and support your order.

Card details stay with Stripe

Stripe processes payments. Your full card number never reaches this website.

Download records

We log when your download link is used, including the IP address, to confirm delivery and prevent misuse.

Never sold

We don’t sell or rent your details, and we only email you about orders and enquiries.

Who we are

Gumleaf Publishing is a business run by Thomas Paul Laurie as a sole trader (ABN 88 336 723 673) in Ballarat, Victoria. On this page, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Gumleaf Publishing, and “you” means the person buying or using our books.

Contact us at gumleafpublishing@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • If you buy a book, we collect your name, email address, the billing details you enter at checkout and what you bought.
  • When you download a book, we record the date and time the link was used, the IP address it was used from and how many times it has been used.
  • If you create an account, we keep your name, email address, school or organisation (if you add one), your orders and your download access. An account is optional, and you can always buy as a guest.
  • If you contact us, we keep your name, email address and whatever you put in your message.
  • When you visit the site, our systems receive standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you view.
  • If someone enters the wrong password when signing in, we record the time and IP address so we can block repeated guessing.

We don’t ask for information about your children.

How we use it

We use your information to:

  • process your order and send your download link and receipt
  • answer your questions and deal with problems, refund requests and payment disputes
  • detect and prevent fraud and unauthorised sharing of our books
  • keep the business records the law requires, such as tax records
  • keep the website secure and working

We only email you about your order or enquiry. We don’t add you to a mailing list.

Payments

Stripe processes card payments. It collects your card details directly and may use information about your device and payment to check for fraud. Stripe handles that information under its own privacy policy. We see your card type, the last four digits of the card and whether the payment was successful.

Who we share it with

We share information only when it’s needed to run our business:

  • Stripe, to process payments and handle disputes
  • our web host, which stores the website and its order records
  • Google, which provides our email and, if we use it, website analytics
  • your bank or card provider, if you dispute a payment
  • government agencies or courts, if the law requires it

Stripe and Google may store information outside Australia, including in the United States. We don’t sell or rent your personal information.

Cookies

Cookies are small files that your browser stores for a website. We use them to keep your cart and checkout working. If we use Google Analytics, it sets cookies that count visits and show which pages are used. Those cookies don’t tell us who you are.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but the cart and checkout may not work without them.

Children

Our books are written for children, but this website and its checkout are for adults such as parents, carers and teachers. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us their details, let us know and we’ll delete them.

How long we keep it, and security

We keep order and download records for five years, which is how long Australian tax law generally requires us to keep business records. We keep emails only while we need them.

If you have an account, it stays open until you ask us to close it. Email us and we’ll delete it, apart from the order records the law requires us to keep.

The website uses a secure HTTPS connection, and only the people who run Gumleaf Publishing can access order records. Account passwords are stored in scrambled form, so we can’t read them.

Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email us and we’ll reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first. We can’t delete records that the law requires us to keep.

Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, email us and we’ll look into it and reply within 30 days. You can find more information about privacy rights from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this page

If we change how we handle personal information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
